1st Battalion 52nd Infantry (Cold War)

I have so many memories from when I was stationed at Warner Barracks, some not so good, but most are very fond memories, of the experiences, the locate, the old architecture, the warm and friendly people (when you were not in uniform), and so many wonderful biers.

So if was a bit unsettling when I went by the old "Warner Barracks" in September 2017 and saw first hand the changes that I had read about.  Several years, earlier the US Army handed over the facilities to the local government of Bamberg.  The buildings and grounds have been turned into apartments, retail store fronts, and a business park for future growth for the greater Bamberg city.

The barracks buildings for the 1/52 are still standing and look to be apartments now.  Much of the section across the street, where the 2nd Calvary unit was located, has been torn down or or re-configured so that it is hard to realize its the same place.

I was on a River Boat tour with a stop in Bamberg, and did some site seeing of my own, since the scheduled tour was going to cover aspects of the city which I had seen, and lived in for more than a year of my life.  So seeing the over-all changes to Warner Barracks and the growth of Bamberg itself were astonishing.

Still, after all these years though, I still consider Bamberg a "home" or at least one of my home towns where I grew up.
