Warner Barracks Closure

The end is nearly here.

After many years of on-again, off-again plans to shutter Warner Barracks, the final closure ceremony is this coming Friday, 12 September 2014. Last year, all the troops moved out. The last units there were with the 173rd Airborne Bde. These were the soldiers "north of the Alps" for that Vicenza, Italy-based brigade.

I went to Warner Barracks back in June to run my retirement flag up the community flag pole. The Community NCOIC was very helpful, and gave…

As to Benning, you know that now it is "The Maneuver Center For Excellence"  this place has grown.  If you have not been here lately, well, there's now the Armor School here, new and bigger PX down the hill across form the old one, there's a new hospital being built, the old barracks @ Harmony Church are gone, the new Infantry Museum has been up and running, pretty good down here I'll say.  If you get a chance, check it out on the internet and you'll see.

Before it slips by me!

You mentioned Sgt Draper, I met him on an exercise @ Ft. Bragg.  Went there from Ft. Drum to the biggest airborne exercise since WW2, 82nd, 101st, British Paras, SAS, Gurkhas, and other special types.  Met Draper as an SF NCO in the field, as always, one sharp soldier.

If I may ask you, what was that teaching moment you mentioned?  It escapes me for now, running around my memory banks!

Greetings, Sir!

Regards to all @ home!!!  Quick run down.  After Bamberg, went to Drill Sgt schl, did 2 yrs, went to Jump school at 32, was a cadre at OCS for a yr, spent 2 yrs at the School of the Americas in Tactics and Special Opns (Abn), did a yr in Korea, then to Ft. Drum, finishing up 22 yrs.  Got a Masters in Education, taught 1st, 4th, and 2nd grades.  Now I substitute and Scuba Dive.  Going to The Bahamas in 2 wks on a Blackbeard Liveaboard, and then Cozumel in June and then back to the Bahamas on the Aquacat, also a liveaboard.  Have trained in Ninjutsu and now Krav Maga, so I stay a "little busy".  How is life treating you?

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. No I am not SSG. Vance. He was my platoon sergeant for a while at headquarters company. He is my cousin though. I don't know if I should admit that or not. He's a good guy just kind of goofy. I've had major comp. problems and got a whole new system, so I'm wading my way through tons of E- mail. Take care and talk to you soon.
